ADOPTING A DOG
All AHR dogs are temperment tested prior to being available for adoption. If a dog is of adoptable behavior, we then fully vet the dog and spay/neuter accordingly. The dog then moves into foster care where it is re-acclimated to living in a home. While in foster care, our dogs receive basic obedience and learn acceptable behaviors such as sitting for food, not pulling on a leash when walking and housetraining. All dogs are crate trained as well.
All potential adopters must fill out an application. A home visit is mandatory so we can get a sense of who you are and also see how you interact with the dog you are applying for. All persons and animals residing in the home must be present for the home visit.
You are required to check with your homeowners insurance company and landlord, if applicable, to see if there are any breed restrictions.
Our dogs are pulled from local shelters, high volume urban shelters of New York and Connecticut and occasionally surrendered to us from private owners.
We treat all AHR dogs as cherished pets and are looking for homes where they will be treated the same. We make every effort to match each dog based on their temperment with the potential adopters home situation. We reserve the right to refuse any application/home. Remember, we are not just looking for a home, but the right home for each dog!
Your adoption donation of $350.00 is non refundable!
